Chronics
No one taught about what the company will be like after 85 years when in 1919 during the after war rough-and-tumble it came in to being.
Today is the Siegfried Schuster GmbH a family business with 3rd and even 4th generation. Of the firm in the backyard of Leipzig’s center grew two branches in the field of flower super stores in Leipzig- Radefeld and Langewisch in Potsdam.
These 85 years were not easy ones. Inflation, economical crisis, literary reconstruction after the ruins of the Second World War, the constant fear of forced nationalization and fight with the authority in the GDR-times, another reconstruction in the free market economy in the 1990.
We owe our successful company which has gone through hard times and our worldwide connections which made it possible that our items float from Africa and Asia to Leipzig-Radelef, we owe all that above all to our loyal customers.
The History of Schuster Floristenbedarf
A year after the First World War established Hermann Schuster in 1919 in Leipzig’s center a workshop for wreaths and traded with different items for binding.
Hermann Schuster 1929
During the bomb attacks in Leipzig 4. December 1943 was the workshop of Hermann Schuster destroyed. Because her man Alfred Schuster became a soldier and later became a war-prisoner the daughter-in-law Elfiede Shuster initiated the reconstruction if the company from scratch.
The firm came in to being when it was moved in the “Hohe” street in Leipzig’s center, which later became a well known place for all customers in GDR.
The core of the firm was the wreath-ribbon printer which Alfred Schuster was leading until his death in 1972. Because of the aggressive policy of the GDR-government against the independent tradesmen in the beginning of the 70s his son, Siegfrid Schuster, couldn’t continue to lead this part of the company.
The wholesale section of the company had escaped this bad fate. When the GDR-government policy concerning tradesmen was relatively friendly Alfred Schuster transferred the company to his son, Siegfried Schuster. Lucky, the company also escaped the nationalization in 1972. And even then the following years were marked by political fears.
Many things were different back then in the company when it comes to conditions. The wide range of products which were mainly suited for funerals and mourning were not requested at fairs, but were distributed in funds of goods controlled by the government. There was almost no place for initiatives.
With the changes in autumn 1989, marked by the European Union the prospects for the Hermann Schuster Company were turned upside down: at a single blow all kinds of goods were in abundance- one just had to know how to present them. Even when customers were buying almost direct from the trucks: the space on the Hohe Street were bursting at the seams. It was clear, something new was to arrive!
When in 1990 we moved it was obvious that this measure can only be temporary: In the greenhouse of a former market-garden in Leipzig-Paunsdorf came a cash-and-carry wholesale in to being and miss. Annemarie Schuster achieved the impossible to cover the long working hours with her several employees. At the same time new contacts to suppliers and colleagues were made in order to provide as much as wider variety of products possible.
The ability to improvise was crucial in Paunsdorf, there was an increasing need to rebuild and extend the spaces to be in step with the growth of the company. And yet at that time milestones essential for the further success of the firm were achieved: Michael Schuster, with whom begins the 4th generation in the family business, ensured the logically following computer networking in the company. At the same time the rate of imports increased due to the cooperation with the IGB-Group, a society of importers. But above all the years in Paunsdorf strengthened up our self-confidence: We must certainly invest strength- and we don’t need to hide from anyone.
In November 2nd 1996 was another big step achieved: Together with NBV another company was established in the superstore for flowers Leipzig-Radefeld . By that time due to organizational reasons the new company had a new name: Siegfried Schuster GmbH. Even more space and convenient accessibility in addition to the customer contacts and experience from the time spent at the Hohe Street and Leipzig- Paunsdorf: the new location became a great success!
In the 18th of April 1999 was the next stage reached: At the superstore for flowers Langewisch south of Potsdam and Berlin was another company branch established. On the one hand we could to draw upon our experience from Leipzig. On the other hand we literally found – seen from our company history in Leipzig- a new land. And yet this was still a family business because with Anett Harnisch and her husband Joachim once again two family members took the lead.
Ten years ago we could have not even imagine how the company will turn out. However we don’t want to forget what proved to be important experience during the DDR and the economical turbulence in the years after the wall fell: we couldn’t have been successful without our customers. Your care is our successe.
