Whoever associates the gardeners work explicitly with landscapes in the private or public sector considers merely a part of this complex craft. Next to special fields like cemetery gardening or tree nurseries in the 21st century comes the economical side of gardening to the regular professional activity. Apart from the mere cultivation and care for gardens in the field of production or adornment other main focuses are rather artistic, agricultural or economical.

Agriculture and tree nursery as important applications

The classical job of the gardener is the cultivation and care for all kinds of plants; it can be practiced both for arrangement of one´s own gardens concept or as a retailer. The love for nature and the interest in many plant species and their cultivation is a must for gardeners who self-employed of as an employee in a horticultural company can be entrusted to do this job. The tree nursery and breeding of ornamental plants are one of the most common type of gardener work.

Since fruits, wine and vegetables should be cultivated and cared for in specific manners one of the main focuses in the gardeners education is in this rather agricultural field. Just like in the case of ornamental plants breeding in the course of garden arrangement the trainee studies all fundamentals and particularities of the plant families and so is capable to make a contribution to the agribusiness.

Live up to creativity in landscaping

Live up to creativity in landscaping

Whoever is creative-minded and enjoys the care for plants and to live surrounded by nature should be happy to become a gardener or a landscape designer. In this professional field the main challenge is not the breeding of different kinds of plants, but the combination and arrangement of all kinds of plants in order to shape private gardens, parks or green areas in cities. A few decades ago the name „Kunstgärtner“ or artistic gardener was suitable for this job in which creativity and landscaping found expression. What a florist does when arranging bouquets of flowers a landscape gardener does with areas in the range of many square meters, whereas next to the mere conception for public or private green areas the issue of appropriate care also falls within the gardeners area of responsibility.

The economic importance of the gardening

The breeding as well as the selling of flowers has radically changed in the past decades not only because of the growing number of garden centers over the entire federal territory. For those who have interest in gardening this development reflects their wishes because to work with all kinds of plants can be combined with economic activities. During her training the gardener for instance can follow a mercantile path and sell major customers breeds from hers own herbaceous plants or ornamental plants garden  or to manage her own garden center. Aside from these economic skills is in this field without wonder that the leading person has a basic insight into gardening and horticulture.

The professional image of the gardener in the future

Just as private persons would give up on attractive arrangements in their terraces or gardens, every now and then new challenges arise for the horticulture in modern cities. The gardeners ability to make natural installations and arrangements with creative attitude and economical skills should continue to enjoy appreciation in the future. An ideal and multi-faceted profession, that is for men as well as for women who love nature.
